Overview

As cameras become increasingly ubiquitous and AI models evolve to process video streams into actionable data in real-time, the potential for “Video + AI” to enhance business operations is expanding daily. In this hackathon, we seek your assistance in creating innovative, impactful, and inspiring enterprise video applications built on Network Optix’ Enterprise Video Operating System (EVOS).

We firmly believe that tasks requiring human perception and reasoning, such as a bartender noticing an unattended table in a restaurant, can be automated using video data, AI analysis, and advanced business applications (e.g., visualizations, dashboards, alarms). With EVOS, Nx offers a suite of open tools enabling developers to manage numerous video streams across multiple locations, deploy on-site AI models (at the edge), visualize videos, establish business rules, and deliver meaningful applications to end-users. Your task is to develop such an application leveraging EVOS.

You will receive a library of video streams (RTSP streams) for this project. Working within an interdisciplinary team (including UX design, software engineering/C++ skills, and data science expertise), you will create a compelling Enterprise Video Application on top of EVOS that delivers business value using a subset of available streams.

We strongly encourage you to begin from a user-centric perspective: how does your enterprise video application benefit end-users? Subsequently, delve into the specifics: which Nx EVOS tools will you utilize? What AI models are suitable? What business logic will be implemented? Once these aspects are addressed in the initial stage, we will proceed to the implementation phase, focusing on building a reliable, scalable, and maintainable application. Above all, your application will showcase the transformative capabilities of video technology.

We invite you to develop a fully operational enterprise video application using the open tools offered by Nx EVOS. You will have access to a diverse range of RTSP streams covering various business sectors: from traffic scenes like those collected by public buses, nature scenes like a beehive or a wildlife park, to industrial environments showcasing production processes and factory shop floors, as well as retail settings capturing customer behavior within stores. Your task is to create applications that add significant value to one of these businesses by effectively leveraging the available video streams.

To build your application, you'll utilize the following components:

  • Video Streams: Utilize Nx server to ingest various video streams. While we will provide RTSP streams, you are also encouraged to integrate your own videos if desired.
  • AI/Video Processing: Leverage Nx tools, such as the Nx AI runtime, to execute AI models on the video streams. You have the flexibility to create your own models, with off-the-shelf YOLO type models recommended for simplicity. Note that we aim to minimize the focus on actual model development for this challenge as this is a challenge on its own.
  • Business Rules and Metadata: Employ your C/C++ engineering skills, along with Nx client or mobile tools, to craft a meaningful dashboard, establish business rules, and ultimately deliver a valuable enterprise video application.

Furthermore, we encourage you to explore the capabilities of our tools, contribute enhancements, and surprise us with innovative video-based applications that drive business value. Consider the practical hardware requirements for deploying your application in the field, ensuring compatibility with desired devices. Remote devices will be provided for cross-platform testing of your application.
